Overview
 
A Fire Engineer plays a crucial role by providing specialist fire-related knowledge across the built environment. With a strong understanding of legislation, fire safety guidance, and codes of practice, a Fire Engineer:
  • Uses professional judgement and fire engineering expertise to interpret and apply guidance or justify deviations from standard codes.
  • Utilises mathematical and scientific principles to assess fire risks to people, structures, and the environment, ensuring compliance with client objectives and high safety standards.
  • Engages effectively with internal teams and clients, contributing to all project stages, from bidding and design to construction, commissioning, and operational phases.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead small to medium projects as the Project Engineer, with support from a Project Manager.
  • Develop knowledge in fire design and engineering principles.
  • Gain experience in Detailed Technical/Tender Design and Construction work packages, site visits during construction, and surveys of existing buildings.
  • Apply fire strategies and technical engineering report writing.
  • Develop project management skills.
  • Enhance digital working capabilities and quality management processes.
  • Contribute to technical excellence within the region.
  • Work on diverse projects across the UK and globally, spanning various building types.
  • Provide fire design and assurance services during construction.
  • Engage directly with clients to deliver successful project outcomes.
  • Offer consultancy services with a strong ethical focus.
Preferred (but not essential) Experience
  • Knowledge of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modelling and smoke movement analysis.
  • Familiarity with additional computer modelling software, such as CFAST, Pyrosim, and Pathfinder, to develop alternative fire engineering solutions.
Requirements
  • BEng Hons degree accredited by the Engineering Council.
  • Associate Membership of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE).
  • Experience in developing fire engineering deliverables for UK or ROI-based projects.
  • Awareness of relevant legislation and design guidance applicable in the UK or ROI.
