The Opportunity
I am working on behalf of a leading UK consultancy that is looking to appoint a Director of Building Surveying / or Office lead (strong AD) to lead and expand its Birmingham office. This is a key leadership role with responsibility for driving business growth, delivering high-profile projects, and building a successful team.
The consultancy has a strong presence across the UK and is involved in residential, commercial, education, and public-sector projects, offering a full range of building surveying and consultancy services. With the support of an established national team, this role offers an excellent platform for a motivated leader to shape and grow the Birmingham officewhile delivering industry-leading projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Office Leadership & Growth: Take ownership of the Birmingham Building Surveying team, developing a strategy for expansion and success.
- Project Delivery: Lead and manage a variety of residential, commercial, education, and public-sector projects, from initial feasibility through to completion.
- Client & Business Development: Build strong client relationships, identify new business opportunities, and develop a regional presence in the market.
- Recruitment & Team Development: Recruit, mentor, and manage a team of building surveyors, creating a positive and collaborative working environment.
- Financial & Commercial Oversight: Take responsibility for the financial performance of the building surveying function in the region, including forecasting, budgeting, and profitability.
- Technical & Compliance Excellence: Ensure all projects adhere to regulatory standards and best practice guidelines, delivering high-quality outcomes for clients.
The consultancy has delivered a wide range of high-profile projects across the UK, including:
- Residential Developments – Overseeing new-build and refurbishment schemes, working with private developers, housing associations, and local authorities.
- Commercial Property & Workplace Solutions – Providing strategic asset management, refurbishment, and fit-out services for office and mixed-use developments.
- Education & Public-Sector Projects – Delivering building surveying and project management services across schools, colleges, and government-owned buildings.
- Historic & Listed Buildings – Advising on the conservation and refurbishment of historic properties, ensuring long-term sustainability.
- MRICS qualification (essential).
- Significant experience in Building Surveying within a consultancy environment.
- Expertise in residential, commercial, and public-sector building surveying projects.
- A strong track record of winning business, managing client relationships, and delivering profitable projects.
- Leadership skills, with experience in recruitment, mentoring, and team development.
- Commercial awareness and financial acumen, including budget management.
- Salary: £80,000 - £120,000 DOE.
- Pension: 5% employer contribution.
